Excerpt from Hersassin - A Leah Givens Thriller

The girl smiled up at her from the cracked dashboard. She tried to smile back, her lips twitched for a bit but a smile would not form. Instead, she put a finger out and touched the girl on the face. She felt tears forming in her eyes and as much as she tried not to succumb, they eventually rolled down her cheeks. She was not supposed to cry, not here, not now. She quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her palm then decided to wait a few minutes.

Her heart beat so hard against her chest it felt like the drums at the walls of Jericho. She took a deep breath then another and looked at the girl again. This time she was able to smile back. It was time.

She turned the key in the ignition and put the pickup truck in gear then drove it towards the steel gates in the distance.

As she advanced towards the gates, like her training had taught her, she scanned around very quickly for cameras; hidden or visible. She couldn’t make out any, which only meant she had to be extremely cautious.

There were two uniformed men, armed in a post by the gates. She assumed there would be more within the premises.
She noticed the men were arguing over something and one of them seemed overly furious. She doubted this had anything to do with her and continued her approach.

The furious one walked out of the post slamming the fragile door behind him leaving it barely hanging on its hinges.
